Something Splendid

Elizabeth Kartchner is a genius....but I'm guessing most of you already know that!

Haha. Ok, maybe I'm overstating it a bit.  Then again maybe not. She is certainly an inspiration, of that I am certain. Recently I signed up for one of her classes on that darling new site of hers.  It's entitled perfectly with the name Something Splendid. I took the girl version of an envelope book class.

The best thing about this class is how easy it is to taylor the book to a theme of your own and include important memorabilia and photos in one adorable little place.  Oh, and her tutorial videos are the best. And the kit has the best, most beautiful products (drool). It's the best how you make the whole thing from scratch. (Ok, there are MANY best things.)

Here is my project...
The title is "We call you baby"...

Front cover....
The front and back covers are made out of chipboard, so the book is super sturdy.
First couple of pages/envelopes...
An embellished journal card to slide in the envelope....
I took this as an opportunity to use up all of those beautiful odds and ends in my stash that are too lovely to throw out but not quite right for large projects.
Another card...
I did this with each one.  On one side I embellished in some way and on the other I wrote a sweet sentiment or story about "Baby."
Each bag has a journal card filled out and a corresponding photo or two.  I've also included some tidbits from her life...Like the button she received during her birthday breakfast with Minnie, the parking ticket from that day at Disneyland (with the date prominent on it), etc.

For some reason 10 bags just weren't enough for my thoughts on this girl.  So on the inside of the back cover I created a space for "1 more thing."  On the card I wrote about how sad it makes me that now when we call her baby people laugh and say, "what baby?" And how it will never stop me from calling her that. (Just as long as no one ever puts her in the corner I think we'll be OK. --But that is a thought for another day.)

Don't you just want to pick it up and see what's inside? :) It's a delight for the senses.  The noise of the envelopes as you turn the page, the texture of embellishments on your fingertips, the sight of all these lovely colors... oh, yum. I could go on and on and on.

Suffice it to say I had a splendid time taking this class. (My first scrapbooking class, EVER!)  I would certainly recommend taking some of the courses Elizabeth offers...after all she is a genius.
